The Tashkent-based Pakhtakor today signed the Australian midfielder Rostyn Griffiths on a 1.5 year deal. The defensive midfielder Griffiths moved from Perth Glory and will wear the No 80 shirt. Previously, Griffiths played in the leagues of Australia, Holland, China and England.

Answering a question whether the move to Pakhtakor was a step back. Griffiths said: “The team is eyeing trophies and is likely to play in the Asian Champions League. The head coach shared his vision of the team’s objectives. Besides I am familiar with some players of the Uzbekistan national team, I played against them in the Chinese league. They were very strong physically and had tremendous technical skills. So no, it is not a step back"

According to Shota Arveladze Griffiths is just the right player the team was looking for quite for some time. "I think he will help us very much in the next round. We need to have a balance in our game. He is a quality player, and the rest is a matter of tactics, "Arveladze said.
