Customs officers at Tashkent International Airport seized 6.8 kilograms of the synthetic drug mephedrone from the luggage of two passengers arriving on a flight from Bangkok, the State Customs Committee reported via its Telegram channel.
According to the agency, the operation was carried out on August 4 by the Anti-Smuggling Unit of the Tashkent-Aero specialized customs complex, working in cooperation with border and customs officers at Tashkent International Airport.
The two passengers arriving from Bangkok had passed through the "green channel," signaling they had nothing to declare. However, an inspection of their luggage turned up two matching wine bottles and two plastic containers.
Inside the containers, officers found a combined 6.8 kilograms of mephedrone. Customs authorities have opened a criminal case in connection with the seizure.
Since the start of 2026, customs officials say, cooperation with other law enforcement agencies has led to the discovery of 471 cases involving the illegal transport and underground circulation of narcotics within the country, resulting in the seizure of nearly 1,800 kilograms of illicit drugs in total.
The seizure comes just weeks after authorities reported the arrest of drug traffickers in Namangan and Tashkent provinces in early August. Criminal cases have been opened in both instances, and investigations are ongoing.
