The Legislative Chamber has approved a draft resolution to redraw the administrative boundaries of two cities and several districts in Syrdarya province.
The changes will affect the cities of Gulistan, Shirin and Yangiyer, as well as Gulistan, Bayaut, Mirzaobod, Akaltyn, Sardoba, Sаykhunabad, Syrdarya and Khavast districts.
Under the draft, Gulistan city would absorb 527.23 hectares of land currently within Gulistan district and 582 hectares from Bayaut district. A further 638.77 hectares of land from Bayaut district would be incorporated into Shirin city.
The bill's authors say expanding Gulistan and Shirin cities will help ease population density, improve transport links and facilitate feasibility for major infrastructure projects and investment.
Officials also expect the boundary changes to pave the way for new industrial zones, technology parks and high-tech enterprises, generating jobs in construction, services and manufacturing.
The proposed boundary changes were discussed at neighborhood assemblies and at meetings of district, city and provincial councils of people's deputies, which approved the accompanying maps and border descriptions.
