The Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will pay a state visit to Uzbekistan on August 23-24 at the invitation of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Uzbek presidency website said.

Under the visit's program, the two leaders are set to hold high-level talks in Tashkent and chair the third session of the Supreme Interstate Council between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

The summit agenda centers on deepening and expanding the strategic partnership and alliance between the two countries.

Talks are expected to focus on boosting trade turnover, strengthening cooperation at the business and regional levels, making fuller use of opportunities in the transport and transit sector, and sustaining active cultural and humanitarian exchange.

The two presidents will also exchange views on pressing international and regional political issues and discuss coordination within multilateral organizations.

The visit is expected to conclude with the signing of a substantial package of agreements, along with the launch of several economic and humanitarian projects.

The visit coincides with the Forum of Provinces of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan and other joint events currently underway in the country.
