The Singapore's Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong took part in an event at the Senate of Uzbekistan, where discussions centered on the current state of relations between Uzbekistan and Singapore, the development of interparliamentary cooperation, and prospects for exchanging expertise in public administration, education and human capital development.
Opening the event, the Senate chairperson Tanzila Norboyeva noted that Singapore's rapid rise to a high level of development owed much to long-term strategic reforms, the rule of law, effective governance and sustained investment in human capital.
She pointed out that Uzbekistan and Singapore are approaching the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. Regular dialogue between the two countries' leaders in recent years has moved bilateral ties into a new phase, he said, with parliamentary delegation visits and cooperation between committees and interparliamentary friendship groups also expanding steadily.
Lee Hsien Loong then addressed the gathering, touching on global trends, development patterns across Asia, and shared threats facing the international community. He noted the importance of jointly responding to such threats.
The Singaporean senior minister also spoke about the current state and future potential of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Singapore, emphasizing the value of exchanging experience in governance, education, human capital development, innovation and economic growth.
Participants discussed expanding cooperation in lawmaking practices, digitalizing parliamentary operations, public policy, education and youth policy, and modern workforce training.
The parliament also announced an updated composition for its cooperation group with the Singaporean parliament. The group's next meeting is expected to take up proposals raised in Lee's remarks.
Next year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Singapore, a milestone both sides described as an important opportunity to take stock of past cooperation and set priorities for the future.
The event concluded with Lee Hsien Loong signing the Senate's distinguished guest book.
