Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Syria, based in Kuwait City, Ayubkhon Yunusov, has presented copies of his credentials to Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, Dunyo news agency reported.

The Foreign Ministry's press service said that Yunusov is the first Uzbek Ambassador to be accredited to Syria.

Al-Shaibani said Damascus attaches great importance to developing relations with Central Asian countries, Uzbekistan in particular. He added that Syria deeply appreciated the assistance and support Uzbekistan had extended in recent years.

The two sides discussed establishing an Uzbek-Syrian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, setting up a political consultation mechanism between their foreign ministries, and pursuing other joint initiatives.

Yunusov has served as Uzbekistan's ambassador to Kuwait since February 2024. Since October 2025, he has also held a concurrent appointment as ambassador to Iraq.
