The number of criminal cases heard by Uzbek courts rose by 29% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year, the Supreme Court said in a report.
Courts across the country heard cases involving 49,705 people between January and June — an increase of 11,197 compared with the same period in 2025.
The report breaks down criminal cases into four categories based on their level of social danger. The largest category consisted of low-risk offenses, with 22,066 cases — up nearly 50% from the same period last year.
Courts also heard 11,428 cases involving less serious crimes over the same six months, up 12% year-on-year.
The number of serious crime cases reached 13,795, an 18% increase from the same period in 2025, while cases involving especially serious crimes rose 19% to 2,416.
Tashkent city recorded the highest number of criminal cases heard in the first half of the year, with 6,639. It was followed by Fergana province (6,159), Tashkent province (5,498) and Samarkand province (5,461). Sirdaryo province recorded the fewest cases, with 1,304.
