The first stage of a $10 billion MTO gas-chemical complex (GCC) project will be launched this year in Tuprokkala district. The GCC will produce 2 million tons of 14 types of high-value-added polymers per year President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said during his trip to the Khorezm province.

In addition, a chemical technopark will be set up on 10 hectares in Hazorasp, where projects worth $100 million will be implemented to produce polymer products,” the official report says.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the $10 billion GCC during his visit to Khorezm last March, saying that negotiations had begun with the world's most advanced companies in this field.

“Once completed, this project will provide 3 thousand jobs, with 2.4 million tons of high-value-added polymers to be manufactured annually. This will be a flagship of the industry not only for Khorezm, but also for the whole country,” the president said.

Uzbekneftegaz’s $1.8 billion project to expand the Shurtan gas and chemical complex has been suspended last year. The same capacity MTO complex is being built in the Karakul district of the Bukhara province. The project, implemented by Gas Project Development Central Asia AG, founded in Switzerland, and Belvor Holdings Limited, registered in Cyprus, is estimated at $2.7 billion.

Media reports surfaced earlier that the $3.4 billion Uzbekistan GTL plant would be privatized.
