In the Surkhandarya province, the reconstruction project of the provincial Sariosiyo airport has been completed. The airport received its first technical flight - an ATR-72-600 aircraft of the SilkAvia airline on Tuesday, the press service of Uzbekistan Airports said.

A major overhaul of the artificial surfaces of the airfield was completed at the airport, namely, the asphalt concrete coating was reinforced with two layers along the entire length of the 1,550 m and 35 m wide runway, taxiway and apron with parking spaces for up to two ATR-72-600 aircraft.

"The airfield complex of the Sariosiyo airport required an overhaul due to its wear (operating since 1976), as well as in order to ensure the required level of flight safety, reception and take-off of aircraft of the ATR-72 type and lower class... The technical flight testified to the full readiness of the airfield to receive and take off of aircraft," the press service of Uzbekistan Airports said.

The 100-passenger hourly throughput capacity new terminal project is currently being completed. Upon project completion, within a month, it is planned to launch regular flights.

Sariosiyo became the fifth provincial airport to resume operations in recent years, after the airports of Muynak, Kokand, Shakhrisabz and Zaamin had been reconstructed and opened.
