Urumqi hosted Uzbekistan-China Economic Forum Wednesday, on April 30. The opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and a delegation led by Ma Xinzhuy, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

In his remarks, Abdulla Aripov noted that the Uzbekistan government delegation, which included more than 250 large business leaders, as well as governors, mayors and senior officials of Andijan, Tashkent, Fergana, Syrdarya, and Surkhandarya provinces, had also visited Urumqi.

Reportedly, the Uzbekistan’s gross domestic product has doubled in the past 7 years, reaching $100 billion ever. The goal is to bring this figure to $160 billion in the next five years. In recent years, the country has disbursed more than $70 billion in foreign investment. More than $14 billion from international financial institutions has been invested in social and infrastructure sectors. It is planned to increase the share of "green" energy sources in energy by 50 percent in the next five years.

Also, on the sidelines of the Forum, business leaders of the two countries held B2B negotiations.

As part of the visit to China, bilateral meetings were held with the CEOs of a number of major Chinese companies, such as China General Nuclear Power, Sichuan Jiuzhou Investment Holding Group, Xinjiang Lihua Group, China Chamber of Textile Import and Export, Shanghai Oriental Credits Industrial Development, Longze Investment Group, Watchman Group PTE, Beijing University of Technology, Electrical Chamber of Commerce, and China Leather Association.
