Government delegations of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan signed an agreement on joint management of the Amu Darya water basin and fair and rational use of water. The details of the document were disclosed by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The agreement was signed during a working visit of the Uzbek government delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jamshid Abduzuhurov to Afghanistan. The document reportedly not only boosts bilateral cooperation, but also outlines future responsible approaches to environmental sustainability and transboundary water resources in Central Asia.
At a meeting with the Governor of Balkh Province, Khoja Muhammad Yusuf Wafo, the parties discussed bilateral trade, simplification of procedures for the export and import of agricultural products, plant quarantine, sustainable use of water resources and their joint management.
The delegation also held negotiations with the Ministries of Agriculture, as well as Water and Energy Resources of Afghanistan, with each area discussed expected to have a positive impact on the economic sustainability and environmental security of the entire Central Asian region.
