On the morning of May 8, the dam was washed out at the PK-194+60 picket of the South Fergana main canal, which passes through the Andijan province, at the site of small hydroelectric power station project, the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources said.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, one of the banks of the South Fergana canal was damaged in the area of ​​the Sarvontepa neighbourhood of the Bulakbashi district. 

As a result of the incident, water entered about 100 houses: 30 houses were flooded inside, in 70 houses the water entered only the garden plots. 

Government bodies did not report whether there were any victims as a result of the dam erosion and flooding of houses. 

The Emergency Situations Department of the Andijan province has deployed response teams to address the incident. "The situation is completely under control," the Ministry of Emergency Situations said. 

As reported by the Ministry of Water Resources, a working group, including heads of irrigation departments and inspection authorities arrived at the scene to clarify the circumstances of the accident and eliminate the consequences. 

60 cubic meters of water per second were flowing through the canal At the time of the accident, while the design capacity was 80 cubic meters. In order to avoid worsening the situation, the discharge of water from the Andijan reservoir was stopped. By 14:00, it was planned to completely stop the water supply. The flow will be redirected to the Lower South Fergana Canal. 

Operational headquarters was created to restore the dam, and round-the-clock duty of management personnel was organized. 10 dump trucks, 4 truck cranes, 2 bulldozers, 8 excavators and more than 50 workers and employees are involved at the site. 

As specified by the Ministry of Water Resources, at the PK-194+60picket, construction of a hydroelectric power station project is underway as per the design of Hydroproject by customer Hydrostroy Zakaznik Service.
