Deals have been inked with three Hungarian companies on launching contractual manufacturing, localization, and investment, the Pharmaceutical Industry Development Agency Abdulla Azizov told the Uzbekistan 24.

According to him, one of the Hungarian pharmaceutical giant, Gedeon Richter with the 2024 revenue at $2 billion, already delivered $36 million worth of medicines to Uzbekistan in 2024. He added that contractual manufacturing would be launched with the drugmaker.

At the first phase, we plan to start with five types of drugs, and in the future, we will review our clinical protocols and include new types of drugs, thereby expanding the production of Gedeon Richter drugs, he said.

Deals on contractual manufacturing have been reached with another Hungarian drugmaker, Egis Pharmaceuticals, that sold about $6-7 million worth of drugs in 2024 to our country. The company exports over 30 types of drugs to Uzbekistan.

The pharmaceutical agency has been negotiating with another Hungarian drug manufacturer, Meditop Pharmaceutical, for a year. It plans to localize production and has already registered 16 of its drugs in the country. Marketing research is being conducted in parallel to determine the demand for its products. If the results are positive, the company will begin manufacturing in the Tashkent Pharma Park cluster.

In August 2023, the CEO of Meditop Aks Zoltan said that the company had plans to build a plant in Tashkent or the Tashkent province. The investment volume was expected to be about $20-50 million.
