The president Shavkat Mirziyoyev in a letter congratulated the president-elect of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myung on winning the presidential election and extended him best wishes, the president’s spokesman said.
In his letter, Shavkat Mirziyoyev voiced confidence in the further growth of the economic potential of the Republic of Korea, boost in the country’s prestige and position in the international arena under the leadership of Lee Jae-myung.
“We attach special importance to bringing friendly and comprehensive ties with the Republic of Korea to a new level. I am convinced that during your tenure, our special strategic partnership will dynamically develop in all priority areas,” the letter said.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev also offered an invitation to Lee Jae-myung to visit Uzbekistan on an official visit to enhance the bilateral ties.
Early presidential elections in South Korea took place on June 3. The Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung won 49.42% of the vote, while his rival from the ruling People's Power Party, Kim Moon-soo, won 41.15%.
The election was called after the Constitutional Court upheld the impeachment of the former President Yun Seok-yul in April.
