Oil spill ravages a canal in Raish village in Bulakbashi district of the Andijan province. Video footages from the scene circulated on social networks.
According to the provincial Department of Environment, the incident was due to an accident at an oil refinery.
On July 29, experts from the Department, together with other relevant organizations, conducted an inspection and found that the accident occurred at Sanoat Energetika Guruhi company during the oil refining.
The incident has been completely handled. Reportedly, violation sheets have been drawn up for Sanoat Energetika Guruhi to conduct an inspection in accordance with the established procedure.
Based on the findings, it is planned to provide additional information on the damage caused to the environment and the measures taken.
Sanoat Energetika Guruhi (Saneg, SEG) is one of the largest oil and gas companies in Uzbekistan, which holds subsoil use rights to 103 oil and gas fields (previously owned by Uzbekneftegaz). Saneg produces about 80% in the country.
