President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the progress of the governmental and business aviation airport project at the former Tashkent-Sharqiy (Eastern) military airfield.

The major project launched in 2017, having gone through the pandemic and further hardships, was successfully completed, the presidential press service said in a statement.

The total area of the airport is 561 hectares. The 4 km long runway and three taxiways were reconstructed, "which will allow even the heaviest aircraft to land."

In the afternoon, the airport received the first technical flight made by a large airliner, the government’s Boeing 767 (UK67000). Then the Pilatus PC-24 business jet (UK24001) and helicopters landed.

Reportedly, an apron for 20 aircraft and high-end modern hangars have been erected for Boeing-787, A320, business jets and helicopters, ensuring their safe storage in optimal conditions.

VIP and CIP terminals have been built at the airport. The VIP lounge provides all the conditions for official meetings, negotiations and briefings. The CIP terminal, designed to receive 100 passengers per hour, will have shops and catering areas, the statement added.

The airport is equipped with modern ICAO III-A category radio engineering and meteorological systems, which will ensure takeoffs and landings even in difficult weather conditions.

“Thanks to its convenient location, the new airport will become an important transport hub for the capital and the New Tashkent. Opportunities for international visits and business trips will expand, conditions for foreign investors will improve. As a result, economic activity will increase, the service sector will receive an impetus for development and new jobs will appear,” the presidential press service stressed.

"After long preparations, we have built a new airport that will provide high standard of service. This will help relieve the stress on the Tashkent International Airport," said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

He added that construction of a large airport in another location is also planned for the Tashkent city.

Earlier at a presentation to the president on August 1, it the new airport project of the capital was presented to be completed by 2030 in Tashkent province.
