The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke to the President of Finland Alexander Stubb in a telephone conversation Tuesday. The main topic of discussion was the upcoming visit of the Finnish leader to Uzbekistan. The dates of the visit were not revealed.
The parties reviewed the ways to expand multifaceted cooperation, primarily in the trade, economic and humanitarian areas.
According to the press service of the Uzbek leader, in 2024, the volume of the two-way trade rose by 24%. Since 2022, a branch of the Finnish Nordic University was opened in the country, and joint projects in school education are being implemented.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Alexander Stubb discussed possible cooperation in such industries as agriculture, chemical, energy, mining, telecommunications and other innovative areas and also emphasized the importance of introducing advanced technologies into the educational system.
In order to prepare specific joint projects, it was proposed to hold a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and organize an Uzbek-Finnish business forum with the participation of major companies of the two countries.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the current international agenda, emphasizing the importance of peaceful settlement of conflicts based on international law.
