Assistant to Peshku district mayor in Bukhara province was arrested in one of the neighborhoods on suspicion of extortion, the State Security Service (SSS) said today.
A local entrepreneur reported possible illegal actions of the mayor's assistant to the SSS. Reportedly, the official demanded $6,000 from him to help him get 7 acres of land from the mayor office reserve at an online auction.
As a result of a joint event by the SSS, police and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General's Office, the mayor's assistant was arrested while receiving money through a middleman.
A criminal case has been opened against the arrestee under Receiving a bribe by extortion charge. The man is now facing 5 to 10 years of imprisonment. The suspect has been taken into custody, with investigation underway.
