President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended a presentation on the AI development in Uzbekistan and their widespread implementing in the economy and social areas, the presidential press service said today.
The use of AI contributes to the efficiency of public administration, the rational use of resources, and the improvement of the quality of services provided to the public, and Uzbekistan is implementing systemic reforms in this area, the statement said. In 2024, the Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence until 2030 was approved.
Recently, Uzbekistan climbed 17 spots in the international AI application ranking to the 70th out of 188 countries and becoming the top country in the Central Asia.
The presentation discussed priority areas for the development of the industry.
$50 million has been allocated for the implementing AI projects in the economy and social areas. A package of 86 projects has been formed, covering healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, transport, the environment, and the financial sector. Meanwhile, a supercomputer cluster is being set up to provide Uzbekistan with modern computing power for implementing AI-based solutions.
To expedite the development of AI, it is necessary to constantly study and implement advanced domestic and international practices. It is essential to establish close cooperation with our compatriots working abroad, leading experts, and representatives of the private sector, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
At the presentation, he noted that special attention should be paid to the creation of modern data centers and facilitating investing in the development of AI infrastructure.
Separately, the president addressed the issue of training skilled personnel. He emphasized that this work had to commence in schools, improving the qualifications of computer science teachers, updating curricula, and developing new-generation textbooks.
A number of initiatives are being implemented to expedite the training of specialists. As part of the national program "One Million AI Leaders, the educational platforms www.aistudy.uz and ww.omp.aistudy.uz have been launched, offering five free online courses. The program will train 1 million young people with modern knowledge and skills in AI before 2027.
To identify and support promising ideas, AI hackathons will be held in all provinces of Uzbekistan. Specifically, a HealthTech AI Hackathon dedicated to healthcare issues was successfully held in Nukus the day before.
The Uzbek leader pointed to the importance of expanding this experience and organizing similar events in education, water management, the judicial system, and entrepreneurship.
He supported the announced plans and gave directives to refine and expand the context of accelerating the implementing AI and applying best practices.
