The key phase of a small-scale nuclear power plant (SSNPP) project has commenced in Uzbekistan, the Rosatom’s press service said Thursday.

Excavation work for RITM-200N reactor's pit has commenced at the construction site in Jizzakh province. The Uzatom's CEO Azim Akhmedkhadzhaev and the Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev launched the key phase of the project.

The first phase involves excavating the pit for the SSNPP unit with the RITM-200N reactor in the Farish district. Approximately 1.5 million cubic meters of soil will be excavated for the plant, reaching a depth of 13 meters.

As with all our international projects, a high degree of localization is envisaged for the SSNPP project. The work is being carried out by Uzbek subcontractors.

Rosatom will build the plant, which will have a service life of at least 60 years, and will provide all necessary support during its operation. We look forward to many decades of fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation, concluded the Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev.
