The Akhangaran city criminal court sentenced a 18-year-old man for insulting the President of Uzbekistan on September 18.

According to the case file, an Akhangaran resident posted a commentary insulting the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev on his Instagram account under a photograph of the first and the incumbent president.

Forensic linguistic examination found that the comment contained defamatory opinions, ideas, and words against the president, degrading his honor and dignity.

When asked why he had posted the comment and what his goal was, the defendant stated that he had had no purpose and had posted the comment without thinking.

He fully pleaded guilty.

The court found him guilty under Part 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code (Public insult or slander against the President of Uzbekistan via the internet) and sentenced him to two years of house arrest

The man is also banned from:

  • visiting cafes, bars, restaurants or venues where alcoholic beverages are consumed;
  • attending mass events (demonstrations, rallies);
  • establishing contact with individuals prone to committing crimes;
  • changing his place of residence or travel outside the Tashkent province without the consent of a supervisory authority.
