Driver of a Damas minivan struck a 9-year-old boy in Kuva district of Fergana region, the Bu Kun (This Day) program on Zo'r TV said in a story Sunday.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on the 182nd kilometer of the D-105 highway, as the boy was heading to school.
The 21-year-old driver that he was driving on PoA struck a third-grader from School No. 66, who was crossing the road at a traffic lighless zebra crossing.
Reportedly, there is a school near the accident site in Kayirma neighbourhood next to a section of Andijan-Fergana ring road. At that time, the children were walking along this road to school.
The boy was taken to the Kuva district central hospital, where he received first aid. However, despite the doctors' efforts, the child died.
He said he spotted the boy approximately 15 meters before the collision. He estimated the speed at about 40-50 km/h.
The Investigative unit of Kuva district police department opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code (Violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation regulations resulting in death), with a preliminary investigation underway, and the suspect taken into custody.
