President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has given directives to major companies such as Uzbekistan Railways, Uzbekistan Airways, and Uzbekistan Airports to complete the task of reducing the cost of services by at least 20 percent in the end of 2025. Transport Minister Ilhom Makhkamov told Uzbekistan 24 TV channel in an interview.
“The directives will be fulfilled without fail, and steps have been outlined to optimize costs by at least 20 percent. In turn, we will set goals for these enterprises to reduce costs for 2026 and make a relevant decision in a week,” the minister said.
He also underscored that the transformation of enterprises would continue, including them in major international ratings, and a separate audit of direct purchases would be conducted.
The Minister Makhkamov also touched upon countering the informal and shadow economies in the transport sector, underscoring that the permission to operate taxi services on a self-employed basis had shown positive results.
"Enterprises that carry out international cargo transportation show their working capital through the account number showed a positive outcome. However, non-submission of reports by enterprises in domestic cargo transportation remains a kind of hidden economies. Here, too, by setting up of a digitalization and reporting system, an opportunity will be created to bring the industry out of the "shadows", concluded the Minister of Transport.
