The Ministry of Energy commented on social media reports of a gas leak at well No. 202 at the M-25 (25 Years of Independence) field in Baysun district of Surkhandarya province.
According to the Ministry of Energy, this is a geological process which was detected a week ago.
This phenomenon is a temporary extinction of the previously ignited flare. Experts say the situation occurred following geological processes at the field, and the flare was quickly re-ignited. To date, the situation at the M-25 field in Baysun is reportedly stable, and all processes are under the supervision of experts.
The Ministry of Energy underscored that gas ignition is used to prevent the spread of harmful substances into the atmosphere. This method is standard practice in international industry and complies with industrial safety requirements, the ministry underscored.
In early November, reports surfaced that a strong hydrogen sulfide odor had again spread through the area. According to the Ministry of Energy, gas escaping from well No. 202 at the M-25 field in Baysun was re-ignited after it had died down to prevent environmental damage.
