The 77th Republic Day of India was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm in Tashkent on January 26, 2026. The flag unfurling ceremony held in the morning at Embassy premises was well-attended by Indian community and Friends of India. On the occasion, Chargé d’Affaires Shri S.L. Mallik read out excerpts from Hon’ble President of India’s address to the Nation followed by cultural performances including singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ and poem ‘Himadri Tung Shring Se’ by Embassy ladies and solo tabla by Indian Tabla Teacher from Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture (LBSCIC).

The celebrations continued with the hosting of National Day Reception in the evening at Hyatt Regency Tashkent. H.E. Mr. Sherzod Shermatov, Minister of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan graced the event as the Chief Guest. Deputy Minister of Sports Mr. Shakhrillo Makhmudov and Uzbek Ambassador to India Mr. Sardor Rustambaev were also present. The event was attended by more than 400 guests including representatives from the Republic of Uzbekistan, Indian community, Friends of India, eminent sports personalities including Paris Olympic medal winners and heads of various sports federations, public personalities, editors, journalists and diplomatic community.

Chargé d’Affaires addressed the gathering highlighting the significant progress in bilateral relations during the past year and also outlined India’s achievements in various sectors and upcoming events including AI Impact Summit 2026.

The following were showcased during the Reception: the National Anthems of India and Uzbekistan by Tabla Teacher from LBSCIC and Uzbek Folk Group ‘Shodlik’ and fusion musical performance, an exhibition on 150 years of Vande Mataram and Yoga demonstration by Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan with support of LBSCIC.
