A traffic police officer has been awarded a cash prize of 30 times the Base Calculating Amount (BCA), totaling 12,360,000 soums, or over 1,000 USD, for refusing to accept a bribe.
According to official reports, traffic police officers stopped a GM Lacetti sedan in the Karmana district along the Samarkand–Navoi highway. Upon inspection, the driver was found to be operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
In an attempt to prevent the citation from being sent to court and to secure the vehicle's release from the impound lot, the driver's father offered a $1,000 bribe to the inspecting officer.
The officer immediately reported the bribery attempt to the police department. A subsequent sting operation was launched, and the man was caught red-handed while attempting to hand over the $1,000 to the inspector.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident under Article 211 of the Criminal Code (Bribery).
For his integrity and refusal to accept the bribe, Captain Sherbek Turkhonov was officially rewarded by the state with a cash bonus of 12.36 million soums.
