The president Mirziyoyev signed the Measures to Further Improve the Activities of Higher Education Institutions in the Samarkand Province decree.
According to the decree, the province’s academic system will undergo the following structural changes:
- Samarkand State Technical University will be established in place of the Samarkand State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
- The Samarkand branch of the Tashkent University of Information Technologies will be integrated into Samarkand State University.
- The Urgut branch of Samarkand State University will be integrated into the Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute, transitioning the branch's existing facility into the Institute's newly established Urgut Faculty.
- The Samarkand branch of the Tashkent State University of Economics will be integrated into the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service.
Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, professors, teaching staff, and doctoral students from the said universities will be systematically deployed abroad to leading foreign universities and research institutions for professional development and scientific internships.
Furthermore, beginning in the 2027/2028 academic year, an Advanced Engineering School of Smart Water Technologies will be launched at the newly formed Samarkand State Technical University.
