President’s Measures to Broadly Introduce Market Mechanisms in the Water Management Sector decree has established a number of new regulations governing the use of water fund lands and the maintenance of water management facilities.
Under the decree, the state body Implementing Market Mechanisms in Water Management under the Ministry of Water Resources, has been designated as the sole authorized body responsible for leasing water fund lands.
The decree also permits the direct engagement of business entities selected following bids to carry out dredging and sediment clearance work at reservoirs, canals, collectors, and other water bodies.
Furthermore, lands within reservoir zones that have been drained and retain sufficient soil moisture will be made available for short-term lease through electronic online auctions, opening the door for agricultural cultivation on these plots.
