A baby born with four legs in the Sherobod district of Surkhandarya region has undergone two complex surgeries at the Samarkand Regional Children's Multidisciplinary Medical Center, the Kun.uz said. The center's administration noted that the infant faces several more such procedures ahead.

Reportedly, the baby was born on April 28 in Sherobod and was transferred to Samarkand the following day. The child was diagnosed with multiple congenital abnormalities, a condition involving fused twin development, and an extra lower body with additional legs. Two of the legs were small, rudimentary, and without any movement. During the complex surgeries, the extra lower body and the additional limbs were amputated.

Doctors noted that infants born with this type of condition rarely survive. Nevertheless, every available measure is being taken to give the child the best possible chance at life.

The mother underwent prenatal screening at both 26 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. On both occasions, however, medical staff told her the baby was healthy — noting only that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the child. It is suspected that the specialist who performed the screenings may have been negligent during the examinations.

The infant is currently being prepared for further complex surgical procedures.
