The start of construction on the first power unit of the integrated nuclear power plant marks a new era in Uzbekistan's technological, industrial, and scientific development. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev made the announcement on June 4 during a ceremony celebrating the launch of the project in the Farish district of the Jizzakh province.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also participated in the event, while the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi attended via video link.

"Today, we are not just launching another phase of an infrastructure project; we are witnessing a historic event. We are breaking ground on a new era of technological, industrial, and scientific development for our nation," the President of Uzbekistan stated.

He emphasized that Uzbekistan is currently laying the foundation for an entirely new sector—modern nuclear energy.

"This industry is a symbol of advanced scientific capabilities, cutting-edge engineering skills, and a strategic vision for the future. Once running at full capacity, the nuclear plant will make a substantial contribution to our national electricity generation. It will drive the growth of our economy, scientific research, and manufacturing output, while providing our consumers with clean energy," Mirziyoyev said.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also highlighted the unique nature of the project. "It is important to note that this project has no global equivalent, as Vladimir Vladimirovich has already pointed out. It uniquely merges the latest breakthroughs in small modular reactor generation with large-scale baseload power," the president stated.

At the same time, he emphasized that safety remains the paramount focus during the execution of the project.

"I must stress that safety is our absolute and unconditional priority. The construction of the plant and its preparation for operations are being carried out in strict accordance with the most modern international standards, utilizing cutting-edge engineering solutions and under the continuous oversight of the IAEA," Mirziyoyev said.
