An inspector and social worker from the Social and Legal Assistance Center for Minors under the Andijan Provincial Police Department, identified as S.B., is suspected of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl. The provincial prosecutor's office confirmed the information on Saturday.

The incident first gained attention on social media. Specifically, the Telegram channel MANIFEST reported that the inspector, who holds the rank of major, was taken into custody on June 5.

According to the prosecutor's office, the Kurgantepa District Prosecutor's Office had been conducting a preliminary investigation into the girl’s disappearance after she left home on June 3 and failed to return. The inquiry revealed that S.B. had taken the girl to an apartment building in Andijan and engaged in sexual relations with her.

On June 4, a criminal case was initiated against the suspect (whose age was not disclosed) under the clause c of part 3 of the article 128 of the Criminal Code. This section addresses statutory rape of a person under 16 by an individual responsible for their upbringing, education, or care, or by an employee of an educational, medical, or supervisory institution legally tasked with overseeing the victim. The charge carries a prison sentence of 8 to 10 years.

A court order has remanded the suspect in custody. The provincial prosecutor's office has taken oversight of the investigation, which is currently being handled by the Kurgantepa District Prosecutor's Office.
