On June 8, an explosion occurred at a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder-refilling station in the Karshi district of the Kashkadarya province, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said. Photos and videos of the incident quickly surfaced on social media.

Emergency services received the call regarding the incident in the Chaman neighborhood at 1:50 p.m. Five rescue units dispatched to the scene arrived at 2:02 p.m. While firefighters managed to contain the blaze within three minutes, by 2:05 p.m., it took nearly an hour to fully extinguish the fire, which was brought under control at 2:55 p.m.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire damaged four vehicles—two Chevrolet Cobalts and two gas transport trucks—along with two underground fuel storage tanks.

Six people were killed in the incident. Five others sustained injuries of varying severity and were rushed to the hospital.

On the directives of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a government commission has been established, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov. The commission will oversee aid distribution to the victims, manage the cleanup operations, investigate the root cause of the explosion, and develop measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
