A tragic public transit accident in Istanbul’s busy Fatih district has claimed the life of a six-year-old child from Uzbekistan, according to a statement released by the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul.

The young boy was visiting the city on a family vacation along with his parents and other relatives when the incident occurred in the bustling Laleli neighborhood.

"Preliminary reports indicate that after stepping off a tram, the minor became trapped between the station platform and the tracks," the Consulate General stated. "As the vehicle pulled away, the child sustained catastrophic injuries and died at the scene."

Turkish law enforcement authorities immediately cordoned off the area and have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine exactly how the child became trapped and whether any operator negligence or mechanical failure was involved.

The Consulate General of Uzbekistan confirmed it is actively coordinating with Turkish authorities and taking all necessary steps to provide the grieving family with emergency consular and legal assistance, including the repatriation of the child's body.

In light of the tragedy, diplomats issued an urgent advisory to tourists and residents navigating the city's complex transit network.

"Given the intense infrastructure and heavy flow of public transit across the Istanbul metropolitan area, we strongly urge parents to never leave minor children unattended and to maintain extreme vigilance regarding their safety," the consulate warned.
