Uzbekistan’s daily electricity consumption could soar to record heights amid an anticipated extreme heatwave, the press service of the Ministry of Energy said.
The ministry forecasts that during peak days, national consumption could hit 280 million kWh per day. The maximum load on the power grid is estimated to reach between 13 GW and 13.3 GW.
In response, energy enterprises have been ordered to guarantee the stable operation of power lines and substations, step up preventative inspections, and proactively implement measures to avert blackouts.
The previous record for daily consumption was set on July 18, 2025, at 272.6 million kWh. This figure remarkably surpassed the winter peak of 271.8 million kWh.
During a ministry meeting, officials also addressed recent failures at several Tashkent substations that left residents without power. The Ministry of Energy emphasized that officials will be held personally accountable, noting that several managers have already been dismissed from their posts.
The strict accountability measures follow a recent incident in the capital where a substation exploded shortly after undergoing repairs and a complete equipment overhaul. The newly modernized transformers failed just three weeks after the upgrade.
