A total of 21,042 foreign nationals arrived in Uzbekistan to study between January and June 2026, according to the State Statistics Committee.
The data shows the number of foreign students rose by 11,500 — more than double — compared with the same period in 2025.
Turkmenistan accounted for the largest share of incoming students over the past six months, with 9,207 citizens arriving to study, followed by India (3,723), Tajikistan (1,915) and China (951).
Uzbekistan also drew 834 students from Kyrgyzstan, 689 from Pakistan, 603 from Egypt and 526 from South Korea. In addition, 367 citizens of the Philippines and 302 from the United States came to study in the republic, while 1,925 students arrived from other countries.
The report follows earlier news that an international university town is being established in Tashkent. Uzbekistan aims to have at least five of its universities ranked among the world's top 500 in overall rankings by 2030, along with ten more ranked among the top 500 in specific academic disciplines. The country also plans to secure international accreditation for 100 university programs and introduce international education programs at no fewer than 150 technical colleges.
