A 35-year-old Uzbek citizen was fatally stabbed at his workplace in Kazakhstan's Almaty province. Police have detained a 56-year-old suspect and opened a criminal case into the killing.
The incident occurred in the village of Aktas in the Almaty province, Kazakh broadcaster KTK reported.
Reportedly, the victim ran a tandoor bread stall and got into a verbal dispute with a customer, which quickly escalated into a physical fight.
Preliminary information indicates that the 56-year-old suspect pulled out a knife during the altercation and stabbed the 35-year-old man twice in the chest. The victim died of his injuries.
The victim had worked at the bakery for the past five years. Local residents described him positively, saying he never quarreled with anyone and would sometimes give away bread for free.
The Almaty provinceal police department confirmed that a criminal case has been opened into the killing.
Police spokesperson Yernar Saidildin said investigators identified and detained the 56-year-old suspect during an operational search, and he has since been placed in pretrial detention.
Police said the suspect has confessed and given testimony. The investigation is ongoing.
