President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today landed in Samarkand to attend the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the presidential press service said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev will deliver a welcoming speech at the plenary session of the meeting and hold a number of meetings on the sidelines of the forum.

The two-day summit will be attended by 2,000 delegates from over 100 countries, heads and representatives of the AIIB, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and other international institutions.

The theme of the ninth meeting of the Board of Governors will be "Building Sustainable Infrastructure for All" and touch upon the global economic agenda, strategic programs and plans for infrastructure development in Asia and other regions of the world.

Uzbekistan became a member of the AIIB in November 2016 and is one of the largest beneficiaries of the bank. The portfolio of completed and ongoing projects stands at about $3 billion in green energy, modernization of road transport and public utility infrastructure, education and healthcare, and support for the private sector.
