Former CEO of Turkish Airlines (2015-2022) İlker Aycı and his team were hired to reform Uzbekistan Airways. On December 14, İlker Aycı presented his vision President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the transformation of Uzbekistan Airways, the presidential press service reported.

Reportedly thanks to İlker Aycı’s leadership, Turkish Airlines has evolved from a regional to a global player in the air travel market.

“Today Uzbekistan Airways is facing similar challenges. İlker Aycı and his team unveiled plans to turn Uzbekistan into an international transport hub, effectively using its geographic location and aviation infrastructure,” the presidential press service added.

They presented a strategy for the transformation and development of the national air carrier. One of the presentation slides fetured a new motto for Uzbekistan Airways: Airline For The People.

In line with the strategy, the airline will introduce corporate governance systems based on international experience, increase the aircraft fleet, improve the quality of service and expand the cargo transportation network. With the involvement of foreign investors on the basis of world standards, the privatization of the airline will be completed.

“The main goal is to turn Uzbekistan Airways into a leading regional airline, as well as to provide affordable prices both on domestic and international destinations.

The President approved the submitted plans and stressed that they must be implemented as soon as possible.

“We are lagging 10 years behind in this field. The airline is operating in an outdated way, passengers are not happy at all with the service quality. If we want to develop our economy and tourism, this is our only way,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
