26 illegal mining farms have been identified in Uzbekistan year-to-date, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office said. Reportedly, their stole 29 million kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to the monthly consumption of 145 thousand households. Damage to the state is estimated at 58.2 billion soums.

Criminal cases were launched against 29 persons under Theft charge of the Criminal Code. They face 8 to 15 years in prison.

Note: When using electricity, miners must pay for electricity at twice the rate, and when connecting to the network illegally, 5-fold the price.
