The structure of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade (MIIT) will be revised in Uzbekistan, announced Shavkat Mirziyoyev this at the Dec. 18 government meeting, the president’s spokesman Sherzod Asadov.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev underscored that in order for Uzbek products to be competitive in price, it is first of all necessary to process our own raw materials and improve the quality of end-products.

To achieve this goal, it is planned to review the current MIPT system and “transfer matters related to production, industrial zones and exports in the provinces to the jurisdiction of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI).”

“Thanks to this, the system of export and project creation is being transferred from the state to a self-governing organization of businesses. This is done in order to listen to the requirements and wishes of entrepreneurs, work closely with them and solve their problems,” the statement says.

While, provincial and district departments of the Ministry of Investment will be abolished. In the provinces, these tasks will be handled by Chamber of Commerce and Industry specialists who implement projects and support exports.

The Export Promotion Agency, the Export Support Fund under the Ministry and Uzbekexpertiza are also being transferred to the structure of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

It is reported that it is planned to introduce a system in which grants, subsidies and other benefits for production, exports and brands will be provided to the owner openly and transparently through the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Earlier in October the Ministry of Economy and Finance received new powers, for which the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade was previously responsible. Now the MEF is in charge of national industrial policies, owns the Center for Expertise of Projects and Import Contracts, and more.
