Today, the MPs of the Legislative Chamber passed amendments to laws in the third reading, requiring residents returning from abroad after more than 90-day of overseas stay to take an HIV test, the press service of the Chamber said.
In particular, the amendments include changes and addenda to the Counteracting the spread of the disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus Law and the Sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population Law. The bill was handed over to the Senate for approval.
This procedure shall apply to nationals of Uzbekistan aged 18 to 60, as well as to foreigners and stateless persons permanently residing in the country or arriving in Uzbekistan for work.
The 90-day period is due to the window period of infectious diseases, including HIV. Meanwhile, the tests of Uzbekistan nationals will be borne the state budget, and foreigners and stateless persons - at their own expense or at the expense of the employer.
Earlier, at a meeting of the Milliy Tiklanish party, it was reported that in 2024, out of 1.7 million nationals who returned from abroad, only 25% voluntarily took HIV test. Whereas, 1,512 people were tested positive.
The number of nationals of Uzbekistan working abroad decreased by one and a half times, to 1.3 million people in 2024. In Russia, their number decreased by 1.7 times, to about 700 thousand people.
