The Government of Montenegro passed on Thursday decision suspending the temporary visa exemption for citizens of Uzbekistan, Armenia and Egypt, which, according to the press release, sends a clear signal of Montenegro’s firm commitment to full EU membership.
The Government stated that in line with the obligations under the 2024-2027 Reform Agenda and the final criteria for the chapter 24, Montenegro must fully harmonize its visa policy with the EU visa policy by the end of next year.
“In this regard, the amendments made today suspend the application of the decisions on temporary visa exemption for citizens of the said countries, sending a clear signal of Montenegro’s firm commitment to full EU membership”, the press release said.
Reportedly, at the Thursday session, amendments to the Regulation on the Visa Regime were also adopted, removing Kuwait from the list of countries whose citizens do not need a visa to enter Montenegro, while adding Nauru to the list.
“Additionally, the Article 7 and 12a of the Regulation were amended, taking into account that Bulgaria and Romania became full members of the Schengen Zone under the Council Decision 2024/210 of December 30, 2023, making it unnecessary to list them separately in the Regulation”, the Government added.
