The Waste Management Directorate under the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy carried out work on reducing landfills across the country. In 2024–2025, reclamation and soil cover work was carried out at a total of 47 landfills, and 42 were completely closed.
The Directorate has been engaged in reducing, recultivating and restoring land to its natural state in various provinces.
Reportedly, in 2024 and 2025, reclamation and soil cover work was paerformed at a total of 47 landfills in the Country of Karakalpakstan, Andijan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Tashkent, Fergana and Khorezm provinces. Similar work on 18 landfills (81.68 ha) at the national level for 2025 has also been completed.
In 2024, in Karakalpakstan - 1 (11 ha), in Andijan - 6 (14.90 ha), in Bukhara - 1 (0.50 ha), in Kashkadarya - 5 (19.15 ha), in Namangan - 3 (5.38 ha), in Samarkand - 1 (2.40 ha), in Tashkent province - 3 (9.58 ha), in Fergana - 6 (17.11 ha), in Khorezm - 1 (1 ha).
Meanwhile, a total of 42 waste collection landfills have been closed across the country, and about 90 hectares of land have been returned to nature. Currently, 185 municipal waste landfills are included in the balance of the directorate, and phased optimization work is underway in them.
The steps being taken are being implemented in line with the goals outlined in the January 4, 2024 presidential Decree, as well as in items 72 of the Uzbekistan - 2030 Strategy and the January 30, 2025 Decree .
