Gas-air explosion occurred in an apartment building in the Buston neighborhood in Kokand Wednesday followed by a fire, the Emergency Situations Ministry said. 

The emergency was reported at 2:47 PM. Rescue teams arrived on the scene and quickly extinguished the fire.

Video footage posted on social media shows the second floor of the four-story building engulfed in flames, black smoke billowing from a third-floor balcony, and broken windows in neighboring apartments. Metal structures, fabric fragments, and tree branches are scattered across the building's courtyard. A fence near the first floor, as well as several balconies, were damaged.

According to updated information from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the body of a deceased man was found in the rubble during cleanup efforts.

Earlier on February 16, a gas explosion also occurred in a five-story building on Mukimi Street in Kokand. As a result of the fire, four people were hospitalized with burns, one of whom died in the hospital.

A few days earlier, two people were injured in a gas explosion in a nine-story building in Andijan.
