As part of his stay in the United States, the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate Sodiq Safoev met with Assistant Secretary of State of the United States, Head of the Office of Global Women's Issues, Ambassador-at-Large Kelley Currie, Dunyo reported.

During the meeting, Kelley Currie reportedly commended the measures taken by the government of Uzbekistan in the field of ensuring gender equality, encouraging the wide involvement of women in the public and political life of the country. She also supported efforts to implement educational programs for Afghan women in Uzbekistan.

She stressed that the US government welcomes the drastic changes in our country in this area. In her opinion, reforms are already becoming real drivers of growth in the activity of the female half of society not only in Uzbekistan, but also in the Central Asian region as a whole.

Kelley Currie expressed her sincere gratitude for the active participation and speech of the President of the Senate Tanzila Narbaeva at the international forum "Call to Action for the Economic Empowerment of Women", organized on October 23 by the US Department of State.

According to her, the adoption of a joint Uzbek-American statement on women, peace and security was another turning point in bilateral relations in this area. Washington is ready to assist Tashkent in developing a National Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution on Women, Peace and Security.

Kelley Currie stressed that Uzbekistan today has many women leaders who make a significant contribution to the development of the country. She said she had plans to visit Uzbekistan in December to discuss the state and future prospects of cooperation between the two countries on gender issues.
