Average monthly gross wages in Uzbekistan were $591 in the second quarter, below levels in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, official data showed.
The National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan reported the figure. Kazakhstan ranked first among Central Asian countries at $988. The Eurasian Economic Commission said gross wages in Kyrgyzstan averaged $615 in the first half of 2026, while Tajikistan recorded $358.
Five members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) had higher wages than Uzbekistan in the first half of 2026. Russia posted the highest gross wage in the bloc for January-June at $1,400, followed by Belarus at more than $1,000.
Uzbekistan’s wage growth was faster than that of several larger economies. Its gross wage index stood at +18.4% compared with the same period last year, above Kazakhstan (+10.3%), Russia (+12.7%), Belarus (+13.2%) and Armenia (+5.5%).
Kyrgyzstan (+27.5%) and Tajikistan (+19.6%) recorded the highest growth indices among the countries cited.
The gross wage index compares wages in a given period with the same period a year earlier. Figures for Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and the CIS comparisons cover the first half of 2026, while Uzbekistan’s $591 figure covers the second quarter.
CIS counts eight member states, once Moldova’s exit takes effect: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Moldova’s parliament voted to withdraw in April, and the exit takes effect 12 months after the paperwork reaches the CIS Executive Committee. Turkmenistan holds associate membership.
