The 10th Tashkent International Biennale of Contemporary Arts will take place on October 14-18. This year's theme is "Art and Peace".

The concept of the biennale is aimed at exploring the relationship between art and modernity. In their works, artists will reflect their view of the modern world, which has faced many global challenges against the backdrop of social polarization.

The organizers received more than 350 applications for participation, two thirds of which were from abroad. More than 50 Uzbek and 38 foreign artists from 40 countries were selected. The exhibitions that will open in Tashkent as part of the biennale will feature over 120 works of art of all types: painting, sculpture, installations, video art and performance. Foreign participants will hold a number of lectures and master classes.

"Today, national fine art in Uzbekistan continues to actively develop," said Akmal Nuriddinov, Chairman of the Academy of Arts. — Many talented young people with their own style and creative path are entering the art sphere with decisive steps. This biennale will open up broad opportunities for demonstrating their work to world artists, as well as for introducing our young artists to the work of world masters of painting and establishing a dialogue between them."

This year, 860 million soums (about US$ 67 thousand) were contributed from the budget for holding the biennale, Orzikul Ruziev, director of the biennale said. The funds were used to accommodate foreign participants, their transportation and other expenses, he noted.

Since 2001, the biennale has been held every two years with the active support of the state and serves as a platform for cultural exchange in the field of visual arts, discussing current issues and getting to know the modern creative potential of various countries.
