The Scientific and Technical Council for the implementation of the project to build a small-scale nuclear power plant (SSNPP) in Uzbekistan has approved the plant layout in the Farish district of Jizzakh province, the press service of the Uzatom said.

Joint meeting of the operational headquarters and the scientific and technical council, chaired by Presidential on Energy Security Advisor, Alisher Sultanov took place Tuesday.

As part of the meeting, a presentation was made on the project progress under the contract with Atomstroyexport. The progress report touched upon the design stages, preparatory activities and interaction with international partners.

The participants noted the stable performance of contractual obligations and emphasized the need to strictly adhere to established deadlines.

“In addition, the participants discussed the possibility of using Uzbekistan's natural uranium resources for the production of nuclear fuel, which can contribute to the economic efficiency of the project and strengthen the country's energy independence,” Uzatom added.

In May 2024, an export contract for the SSNPP project was signed in Tashkent, which provides for the construction of a 330 MW nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh province as per the Russian design. In early 2026, Uzatom is expected to receive permit to build the plant.

In mid-April, the construction of the first phase of the construction and installation base within the SNPP project began in the Jizzakh province. This base will become a key element of the infrastructure for the entire period of construction of the power units.
