At the end of April, a group of experts — oncologists, analysts, representatives of the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization and strategic centers — agreed on the zero version of the National Cancer Strategy for 2025-2035 and began to formulate an Action Plan in Tashkent, the WHO press service in Uzbekistan said.

Work on the strategy are part of the initiative "Support for the development of oncological services in Uzbekistan, phase II" with the participation of the Islamic Development Bank.

According to WHO, today in Uzbekistan more than 100 thousand people live with an oncological diagnosis, with over 20 thousand new cases detected annually.

"Many of them could have been prevented or cured - with early detection and affordable treatment. But without a systemic approach, this is impossible. Therefore, each goal, each action in the future plan was discussed in detail: from equipment and personnel to cultural barriers and public trust," the WHO emphasized.

"The goal is not just to reduce incidence. The goal is to save lives,” the international organization noted.

Program for the early detection of cervical and breast cancer has been in effect in Uzbekistan since 2024. Women will be able to undergo regular screening: for the first type of cancer - with HPV tests and liquid cytology, for the second - with ultrasound and mammography. The costs of diagnostics and treatment will be covered by the state.
