An Uzbek national, T. R., a native of the Pastdargom district of Samarkand province, by the April 28 verdict of the Pastdargom District Criminal Court was found guilty of participating in the in the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

According to the case materials, in May 2021, T. R. left for St. Petersburg (Russia) for work. In January 2024, he was detained by Russian law enforcement agencies for violating the rules of stay in the country.

At the trial, T. R. said that, hoping to avoid punishment, and to obtain Russian citizenship and other personal benefits, he voluntarily joined the Russian Armed Forces.

First, he was taken to a military unit located in the village of Kamenka, Vyborg district, Leningrad province. Subsequently, he was recruited to work in combat areas near the border with Ukraine, in particular, to build fortifications, including dugouts.

On January 10, 2025, T. R. returned to Uzbekistan through the Gishtkuprik checkpoint.

The court considered full pleading guilty, sincere remorse and the absence of a criminal record as mitigating circumstances. At the same time, the intent to become mercenary with which the crime was committed was classified as an aggravating circumstance.

T. R. was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code, and was sentenced to 4 years of house arrest. During his sentence, he has the right to leave his place of residence only to travel to and from work.
